日前中學師姐兼出名前主播接受訪問，說她不信起跑線、在Band 3中學讀出自信，同時又已安排兩歲的兒子讀國際學校。
嗯。
「Band 3」學校讀出自信實在見仁見智，不過我相信大家都不會覺得「國際學校」是輸在起跑線的選擇吧？
我怎樣看我的母校呢？第一，我從不覺得我的母校是Band 3，最少不是一般定義的Band 3。她的師資是優良的，教導過我的老師都很有熱誠也有學歷、經驗，是他們塑造了我。而我的母校是「頂級增值」的學校，什麼意思？我們自嘲說：「即是我們升中一時是Band 5質素，但會考後我們增值到Band 1、2質素，Recycle一樣。」母校的老師花五年把我們由curve底拉上curve中上，這不是一間大眾眼中的Band 3能做到的吧？
其次，我的母校給大家最深的印象，應該就是她的地理位置。極偏遠，沒有小巴巴士到校門，返學放學都要邊餵蚊邊行山路（現在已修成斜路），沒有一出校門便可到K房蒲或商場後樓梯煲煙成為壞學生的Band 3天時地利。正所謂人傑地靈，母校幸運地沒有出過甚麼壞人，成績平平的我們就算畢業，都是一顆顆默默會工作貢獻社會的小螺絲。
第三，我身邊的同學他們都是怎樣的人呢？有漁民的後代，有原居民，有中產，有草根；有住公屋居屋的，有住村屋的，也有住匡湖居的。在我中學的七年，我和我的同學都相處得非常融洽愉快，並不因家境或階級不同而有什麼壓力。（可是因我衰多口而絕交的，另計。）同枱食飯、各自修行，有的一早打定算盤「玩」到中五便工作，要養家；有的打算中五會考合格就可以，便到外國升學；有的打算中五後入IVE讀自己喜歡又實用的學科；有的會升預科考大學，例如我。可是中六之後，很多同學走了，換來的是Band 1學校、英中來的外校生。那兩年過得怎樣？依然是同枱食飯、各自修行，只是他們的歸屬感和我們由中一湊大的，當然有距離。
離開母校後我過得怎樣？我入了中大，經大學申請到東京留學，final year考到獎學金到英國讀碩士，回港後做一粒默默無名的小螺絲，像我母校的老師一樣貢獻社會。我唯一在母校的遺憾是沒有拿到以學校名冠名的獎學金，冠亞季都沒有我份，而校外生考到了。儘管我的會考加高考成績是全級最好的。
我的經歷毫不驚天動地，也不甚勵志，而我不會也不曾把「母校是Band 3」（再強調我的母校真的不是Band 3）當作一個光環戴上。要抬高自己有很多方法，可是要矮化對自己有恩的學校為自己抬轎、讀書多卻不知謙卑和感恩為何物，則無品了。

I cannot understand why there has been such a BAND classification in the secondary school system. Every students enrolling in the system should be treated equally in the teaching of curriculum designed for the relevant year but not dictated by such labelling. May be it is purely for administration purpose. Mayi’s mother school comprises a diverse mix of students from various family background. Not all students can perform well from Form 1 onwards and there have been good examples of students doing excellently towards the later part of their study in secondary schools or even university. It is not fair for students to be labelled with BAND on day one and carry this label in the daily study.
All students deserve to have equal treatment from our education system and know that their teachers are educators of hearts and passion.

Mayi, I know exactly what you mean. I also come the school from band 3 level in Kolwoon. To make things worse, my school also very fairly close to another band 1 level‘s in the city. People like us always need try to better and harder in order to persuade the other people that we are not as same as our own schoolmate, classmatrs or friends that we spend time from 8-3 everyday every week every academic year. But there is at least there one thing come out these bamd 3 level school, we have learnt extermly well about: like the western always say: If that thing does not kill you this time, it only made you a stronger person.
